CS2 skins
Float
Also known as: Float Value, Wear value
Float is a decimal number between 0 and 1 associated with each CS2 skin that determines the weapon’s visual wear. Low values (~0.00) produce almost-perfect Factory New skins; high values (~1.00) produce Battle-Scarred skins with visible scratches, rust and patterns. Two skins of the same model can have radically different prices depending on their exact float, especially in collector markets and rare skins.
Context
Float is internal Valve data but can be checked with external tools that read inventory information. Collectors pursue exceptionally low floats within the Factory New range. Some skins with specific patterns (e.g. AK-47 Case Hardened blue gems) can have market values ten or twenty times their model’s base price through the combination of float and pattern. Float also matters for trade-ups because the resulting skin’s float is calculated from the average floats of the submitted skins.
