Provably fair

Also known as: Verifiable fairness, Probably fair

Provably fair is a cryptographic system allowing users to mathematically verify that the result of a case opening, roulette spin or random draw was not manipulated by the platform. It uses hashes published before the action (an encrypted server seed) and a client seed supplied by the user. After the result, the server seed is revealed and anyone can independently check the outcome calculation.

Context

The concept originated in the Bitcoin and crypto-gambling ecosystem and was quickly adopted by CS2 case-opening platforms as a technical differentiator from opaque platforms that could manipulate results. Provably fair does NOT guarantee generous odds — only that the draw operates as the platform declares. A provably fair case with a 0.01% chance of a large prize is mathematically honest but remains statistically unfavourable. Honesty and probabilities are different things.
